BARRINGTON, Ill. - May 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Motor Werks Cadillac of Barrington, a leading Chicago area Cadillac dealer (http://www.motorwerkscadillac.com/dealership/about.htm), is excited to look into the future with Cadillac toward improved safety and luxury with automated driving. While some form of autonomy has existed in cars for years with cruise control and vehicles that can parallel park themselves, Cadillac is now testing a system called Super Cruise, which takes the concept to another level. However, all of these systems have ultimately relied on at least some input from the driver to work them and intervene according to external conditions. With Super Cruise, Cadillac is attempting to make it possible for the vehicle to handle almost all driving duties.

Super Cruise is set to be in the showroom at Motor Werks Cadillac of Barrington in the near future. No official date of release is set, but speculation widely puts Super Cruise into the rumored new flagship sedan, which will likely be called the LTS. This full-sized sedan would be situated above the recently released 2013 Cadillac XTS (http://www.motorwerkscadillac.com/2013-cadillac-xts-sedan...).

Super Cruise appears to be developing as planned, according to Cadillac, and real world testing is already taking place. While the system is ready to be installed in cars, engineers need to put it through its paces to make sure it can handle difficult driving situations. This will likely require thousands of hours of driving time to work out any kinks.

Super Cruise is capable of a number of previously unheard of feats. The system can follow lanes and maintain speed without any hands on the wheel. It can also apply brakes and accelerate in line with the flow of traffic. It uses a number of sensors, which include cameras, radar, and GPS. The idea is to allow the driver to relax on freeways, in stop-and-go traffic, and on long drives.

The driver will still have to pay attention in order to accommodate unexpected things like construction, weather, and when there are no reliable lane markings. While Super Cruise isn’t available yet, many of the technologies that will go into it have been developed and are included in cars like the Cadillac ATS, XTS, and CTS.

Car buyers interested in finding out more about upcoming and current Cadillac features and technology should visit Motor Werks Cadillac of Barrington (http://www.motorwerkscadillac.com/dealership/directions.htm) at 206 N.
