Webel Base Digital Design (www.webelbase.com) has released a new kind of wallpaper for use in android tablets, smart phones and other devices. The Scapes app has several variants with different artistic designs implemented, but what they have in common is that the background is idle while it is not interacted with, but conveys motion of background elements when swiped. Watch the background change depending on how you swipe between your app pages, and aspects of the foreground and backgrounds will move at differing speeds. Unlike most live wallpapers this won't kill your battery; it is active only when the user is. There is no longer any need to choose between boring static backgrounds and non-stop movies that kill a phone. At launch there are eight Scape designs, by San Luis Obispo artists Shannon Neuman and Dirk Stockton. The images layers can move at whatever relative speeds the designer wants. They can speed up the foreground to make it seem like the user is whizzing past a scenario. They can speed up the background to simulate everyone's favorite pass time – spinning. They can also speed up the mid-ground and put a train on it, or make a 360 degree photographic panoramic.
