Follow on Google News | Cargotec’s Ottawa Terminal Tractor Division Garners Special Olympics Kansas RecognitionCiting its ongoing support of Special Olympics athletes, Special Olympics Kansas (SOKS) has chosen Cargotec’s Ottawa Terminal Tractor division, Ottawa, Kansas, as its SOKS 2012 Metro Region Outstanding Business of the Year.
By: Cargotec Solutions, LLC Cargotec initiated its support of SOKS in 2011 with a financial contribution. In 2012, Cargotec expanded its role by funding and directly participating in the Kansas Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), a relay-run style event that garners visibility and support across the state for SOKS. Taken together with its underwriting of other efforts to increase visibility and awareness of SOKS, the commitment of a number of Cargotec employees to coach athletes and volunteer at events, and a mirroring of the SOKS mission, Cargotec was a fitting choice for the 2012 regional award, said Special Olympics Kansas president and CEO Chris Hahn. "Special Olympics Kansas and the Law Enforcement Torch Run are delighted to have Cargotec as a partner," Hahn wrote in a letter to Alan Wilson, director of Cargotec's Multi-Assembly Unit - Ottawa division announcing the award. "Your core values of 'global presence-local service,' 'sustainable performance,' and 'working together' are complimentary and in-line with our objectives." Allan Henderson, manager of quality/environment/ 2013 Torch Passing Scheduled at Noon on Tuesday May 28 in Ottawa, Kansas Cargotec will work to bolster that foundation again in 2013, as it reprises its role as a LETR Guardian of the Flame and hosts a torch passing at their offices located at 415 East Dundee in Ottawa, at Noon on Tuesday May 28. The Flame of Hope will pass through Ottawa and end up at Cargotec for a ceremony and formal presentation of a $10,000 check to SOKS. This year, Henderson said, the support will expand to incorporate a cookout for employees and law enforcement personnel and a community event. "We're expanding it to be more of a community-wide event this year because we want to increase awareness of Special Olympics and we want to continue to show that we care about the communities large and small that Cargotec is a part of," Henderson said.
