The UN Human Rights office released a new video telling LGBT people they are not alone (http://www.gaystarnews.com/ Says Kuddus: When I initially looked at the video to obtain a transcript at 2030 hours on the 14th of may it had just 368 hits and views. Twenty four hours later it had had 31, 935 views and at 06.30 GMT it was 52,362 ; the word having spread on twitter and other social media sites. 76 Countries Forewarned The message of the UN is that countries must protect LGBT citizens from violence or discrimination or they are breaking international law – the United Nations has warned. The video released by the UN Human Rights Office puts particular pressure on the 76 countries that still make consensual gay sex illegal. Additionally, it highlights the many others where lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people are not protected from violent attacks and discriminatory treatment. The video features Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay alongside a diverse range of individuals. A transcript of the video was also made available : http://www.gaystarnews.com/ The 21st Century is Watching: In my comment piece for Gay Star News I highlighted the need for this message to be sent out to the world and endorsed by every government in the world and it must become part of their foreign policy. It was also stated that the video should be compulsory viewing in every school and its message taught as part of every academic curriculum across the globe, to make it clear that discrimination and homophobia will no longer be tolerated. http://www.gaystarnews.com/ The sheer volume of views is a clear indication to the world - and in particular the 76 countries highlighted ignoring the advice of the United Nations - that anti-gay behavior and policy will no longer be tolerated and that the 21st century world is watching. At the time of going to press GSN reporting that the video had gone viral the video had had 65,000 views. Now its 69,639 views. http://www.gaystarnews.com/ End
