Follow on Google News | Trends in PC Shipments paint bleakest picture across Central and Eastern EuropeShipments of PC units across EMEA recorded a drop of -20% year-on-year for Q1 2013 according to analysis by CONTEXT, the European IT market research company.
By: Fundamental Communications The steepest decrease occurred in Central & Eastern Europe, where continued inventory weaknesses in Russia contributed to a decline of -23% for the region over the first quarter of this year compared to last year. Russia itself saw PC shipments drop by -29.1% followed by Poland with -19.6%. Shipments through Western Europe were down by -22%, with almost every country registering double-digit falls including Spain at one end (-35.2%) and the UK at the other (-16.6%). The Middle East and Africa had a better quarter, with a lesser decrease of -11% recorded including Turkey where shipments fell by -2%. Analysts are projecting a similar trend for Q213 with inventory continuing to be an issue in certain countries whilst vendors are expected to act cautiously with their sell-in levels to avoid excess stock accumulations especially prior to the Q312 back to school period. “While slate tablets have continued to draw spend away from traditional PCs, a number of tech vendors are expectant for Q313”, said Nancy Taylor, PC analyst at CONTEXT. “We are seeing a number of launches in the hybrid PC category, attracting particularly those users looking for portability, power and touch capabilities all in one device.” * Desktops, Netbooks, Notebooks, DT Workstations, NB Workstations Western Europe COUNTRY Q1 2013 vs Q1 2012 Austria -26.1% France -24.8% Germany -22.1% Italy -24.4% Netherlands -20.4% Spain -35.2% UK -16.6% Eastern and Central Europe COUNTRY Q1 2013 vs Q1 2012 Russia -29.1% Poland -19.6% About CONTEXT Headquartered in London with over 140 staff in 12 countries, CONTEXT specializes in tracking technology sales and pricing across the globe.
