CHEYENNE, Wyo. - May 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Founded by pediatrician Dr. Juliet Spurrier in 2012, BabyGearLab.com is an online resource that provides in-depth testing; best-in-class reviews; guides for buying advice; and health and safety informational articles in relation to the newest baby products.  Based on her medical and personal experiences as well as BabyGearLab’s testing in both lab and informal environments, Dr. Spurrier co-authored an online article called, “How to Pick the Best Video Baby Monitor for You and Baby.” The intent of this article is to advise parents and other baby’s caregivers on how to choose the best video baby monitor for their family.

Dr. Spurrier understands how challenging it can be to make the best purchasing decisions on behalf of babies, which is why she created BabyGearLab.com. For video monitors in particular, she outlined several criteria that should be considered before choosing the one model that will become a critical tool for moms in getting as much sleep as possible during baby’s first year. “We know mothers are generally sleep deprived, but having a good baby monitor at her disposal can help maximize her rest,” Dr. Spurrier said. “Which helps the entire family overall.”

“These days, almost every new parent will use a baby monitor. However, some will choose to purchase not just a sound but a video monitor as well. Adding the video element can help parents determine whether or not they feel it necessary to get up and soothe the baby in his or her room, or allow the baby to self-soothe,” Dr. Spurrier commented.

The buying advice guide suggests which benefits to consider when making a video monitor purchase. “There’s one key litmus test in determining the image quality,” Dr. Spurrier noted, “and that’s whether or not you can see if the baby’s eyes are open or closed.” Most of the video monitors come with a zoom feature, but if the monitor does not include a remote controlled pan/tilt capability, then, according to BabyGearLab testers, “you many not be able to zoom in on the baby’s eyes.” Another feature to consider is sound activation.

The article also discusses where to mount the video monitor for best viewing, and that it’s still very important for the sound clarity to be high. “It’s worth considering that the range in videos is significantly less than with the best performing sound monitors. So make sure that the video monitor works well where you need it to before keeping it,” Dr. Spurrier warned. The affect of a larger vs. smaller screen is also discussed, as well as impact that having twins has on the buying decision.
