By: ArtisTech Media "On ccMixter, I tend to produce remixes that reflect what I hear mentally when I listen to the raw materials. Similarly, Body & Soul is really just a collection of songs that I tried to chisel from the rock, so to speak, into the form I heard in my head,” Admiral Bob shares. “You could say I wanted to remix my own brain.” Admiral Bob is the nom de plume of Richard Bethell, an Ottawa, Canada songwriter, vocalist, guitarist, bassist, keyboard player, and mandolinist. He is the band leader of Sundays at 8, who accompany the music at Ottawa's Blessed Sacrament Parish on Sunday nights. He has been associated with the Evolutions, an Ottawa R&B group for over twenty years. Admiral Bob has worked on many albums, as both front man and in the role of producer. Body & Soul is the first album he created without a backing band. Body & Soul is a genre hopping album with a solid pop rock foundation. Admiral Bob clarifies, "I don't have a genre. My regular performing gig, Sundays at 8, is known for being a bluegrass blues gospel pop band, but I am even less tied down than that. I started off in the blues, and that does tend to anchor me - but on ccMixter I've done everything from Appalachian folk music to metal to trance. Why be limited?" A wide variety of musicians influence Admiral Bob’s music. "Instrumentally, Albert Collins and Mark Knopfler have had big roles for me in learning to play guitar. I like the sting of a finger plucked note, and they both do that so well. Roy Bittan, Steve Earle were guys who influenced me. Suzanne Vega and Sarah McLachlan both taught me a lot about making musical lyrics.” He continues, “These days, however, I think it is the people on ccMixter who really inspire me." “Admiral Bob is undoubtedly one of the most respected musicians in the remix world,” stated Emily Richards, CEO of ArtisTech Media. “Whenever I contribute a vocal to ccMixter.org, and I know I’m not alone, I hope in great anticipation for an Admiral Bob remix.” Ms. Richards continues, “He’s a one-man band and composer with an incredibly strong singing voice that speaks directly to the heart. His tremendous ability on a wide range of instruments is mind-bending and his work as a producer/arranger is top-shelf. Admiral Bob is the whole package, wrapped in blues and soul.” ArtisTech Media, the company that operates ccMixter.org, is creating partnerships with artists, signing non-exclusive contracts, and releasing site content under Attribution- “TuneTrack listeners and supporters have an experience beyond the music,” explained Alex Goodwin, co-founder of ArtisTech Media. “As our artists share demos of upcoming releases and post blogs, fans get behind-the-scenes access to the musicians they love.
