GMC Carry The Load Spotlight Tim Key

HOUSTON - May 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Plano, Texas (May 20, 2013)…Sewell and GM products have been part of Tim Key’s life for a long time. He has been with the Sewell dealership family for 16 years – twice at Sewell GMC (four years and five years) and currently at Sewell Cadillac in Grapevine where he is General Manager. His favorite thing about working for GM is “the people – I love my co-workers.”

Before coming to Sewell, Key served in the U.S. Army four years as an Air Defense Officer and was a 1st lieutenant when he was discharged. He was on inactive duty for four years but never recalled. He spent most of his time at Fort Hood near Killeen, TX, where his oldest son was born, but also was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX; Fort Polk in Leesville, LA; and Guantanamo, Cuba (GITMO).

“GITMO was cool – I fought in several riots,” he says, adding, “The military is a great job. You learn many lifelong skills. But it’s not a game, and it’s tough on families.”

In addition to his son, Key and his wife have two younger children. Today his biggest challenge will be “getting his kids through college with a good attitude and spirit.”

He remembers, though, that people leaving the military portion of their lives behind them face their own challenges. “I’m with Allies in Service, a group started by Roger Staubach to help transition military folks into the civilian world,” Key states. “I was just introduced to Carry The Load.Anything that shines a spotlight on our military members, I support.”

Key is appreciative of GMC’s sponsorship of Carry The Load and its purpose. “Corporate sponsorship is key to raising money and awareness for any non-profit organization. Mr. Sewell was in the U.S. Army – we fully support our troops.”

DFW GMC Dealers want people to salute a veteran or active duty military hero or first responder (fire, police, medical) by going to the DFW GMC Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/GMCDFW)and entering a “salute.” If you have a story and photo to share about the person you are saluting, DFW GMCDealers will donate an additional $5 if you post it on their Facebook wall.  DFW GMC Dealers – a 2013 sponsor of Carry The Load – will donate $5 for every salute and story up to $10,000 from today through May 27, 2013.

The Dallas Memorial March will be held Sunday and Monday, May 26-27, at Reverchon Park and Katy Trail. Money is raised by event participants and sponsors with a goal of $1 million. Recipients for 2013 are Assist The Officer, Heroes On The Water, Friends of Dallas Fire-Rescue, Tip Of The Spear Foundation and Sons of the Flag Burn Foundation.

The 2000-mile, 27-day Carry The Load National Relay left West Point, NY, on April 30 and will finish in Dallas Memorial Day weekend. The journey honors America’s fallen heroes and their families. Follow the relay on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CarryTheLoad.
