Follow on Google News | Oxfordshire Opticians want people to make a spectacle of themselvesTo mark its 60th anniversary, Oxfordshire-based Robert Stanley Opticians is launching a campaign to highlight the importance of having their eyes tested and to wear their glasses with confidence.
By: Esplin PR Fashions and the perception of spectacle wearers have changed dramatically since the 1950s and 60s and people wearing glasses in the 21st century are no longer considered to be 'geeks'. In fact quite the reverse. 'Geek chic' frames are hot on trend this season from top eyewear designers like Ray-Ban and Calvin Klein and worn by celebrities from Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway to Team Beckham. "Spectacles have become such an important fashion accessory that there is no longer a reason to be self-conscious about wearing them," says John Edwards, "but we do find that most customers still look for reassurance, particularly from family or friends, when choosing their frames." To encourage spectacle wearers in Oxfordshire to wear their glasses with confidence, Robert Stanley is offering to help them choose the right style of frame to go with their face shape and hair colour. "Choosing the right frame isn't just about comfort and practicality, it's really important to feel attractive in them and to achieve this, the frame size needs to be in scale with your face size and shape. Matching the colour of your frames to your hair colour will draw attention to your face," John Edwards explains. All people have to do is call into a Robert Stanley branch for a free frame appraisal, when they can also enter a competition to win a pair of designer prescription glasses and a spectacular makeover with Electric Hairdressing Oxford and No 7, worth over £200. Visit the Robert Stanley Opticians Facebook page for more information. Here are some top tips on choosing frames: · If you have an oblong face, balance the narrowness of the face with a larger square frame · If your face is round, avoid small or round frames, they will only make your face look rounder · If you have an oval face, you are lucky. It is well balanced and you can choose any shape · If you have blonde or fair hair, lightweight frames in pastel shades or tortoiseshell look great · Redheads can go for the dramatic colours like purple or cobalt blue, emerald and jade greens or turquoise · With black hair, anything goes, but keep the shape simple and any colour of metallic frames or a dark finish will definitely get you noticed See more tips on the Robert Stanley Opticians Facebook page /ends Notes to editors: Robert Stanley is an independent market town optician with five branches across Oxfordshire, in Oxford, Abingdon,Wallingford, Wantage and Thames.
