Neosho Memorial Regional Med Ctr to Complement Siemens MS4 w/ Access Bar-Coded Face Sheet Labels

Hospital will generate face sheets and other e-forms on demand with bar-coded labels that enable manual, indexing-free integration into Siemens EDM; will also boost patient safety with bar-coded wristbands.

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas - June 5, 2013 - PRLog -- To provide the best possible care and service to patients, Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center (NMRMC), a regional hospital located in southeast Kansas, is using Siemens MedSeries4®. To achieve even greater benefits, NMRMC recognized the need to generate bar-coded labels for face sheets and bar-coded wristbands. They chose to partner with Access, Siemens’ exclusive partner for enterprise forms management.

“We were looking for a solution that could grow with our needs,” said Lyn Tinsley, IS coordinator at NMRMC. “Access has a good relationship with Siemens and has the technology to help us close some gaps in our MS4 system.”

NMRMC had a labeling solution, but it was outdated and required registration staff to print forms labels only on certain printers. If one of these required repairs, there could be printing delays, and location-driven printing was not possible. The hospital also faced the challenge of wristband labels varying in quality, resulting in the need for nurses to repeatedly scan them to confirm patient identification. The Access solution overcomes these limitations.

“With Access’s system we have the flexibility to send face sheet labels to any printer, so we’re no longer tied to specific hardware,” Tinsley said. “Patient labels print directly on the wristbands and are better quality so we get a verified scan the first time, which improves patient safety.”

Each face sheet and wristband has identifiers that are unique to the patient. This not only ensures positive patient ID, but also makes it easier for NMRMC to get forms into electronic health records (EHRs).

“With the Access solution, the HIM team doesn’t waste time manually indexing each face sheet,” Tinsley said. “The bar-coded forms go right into Siemens EDM.”

NMRMC plans to extend its use of Access products to other electronic patient forms in admissions and on clinical floors.
