ITS Limited BBC radio 4 programme, You and Yours continued to say that “Criminals are taking money from UK companies if this was the case with credit cards then nobody would use them.” ITS has been pro-active with their clients in protecting them from these types of attacks confirming that; ‘In addition to making them aware that this is a growing problem we have built alerts in to our billing platform to pick up on any unusual activity and a cap on maximum spend.’ In addition to this, all routes used by hackers in to the system are password protected to prevent any unusual activity and hijacking. Although these safeguards have been put in place, ITS have stated that ‘they are not fool proof and if clients are concerned additional software solutions can be purchased.’ Telephone fraud has been increasing accounting for 2% of the calls made worldwide which is equal to around £40 billion per year. ITS would urge people to remain vigilant as ultimately, the responsibility for telephone bills is that of the client and any phone bills that look out of the ordinary should be questioned and activity picked up on immediately to prevent further higher costs.
