Follow on Google News | Heartland Hope Mission Receives $80,000 Wal-Mart GrantHeartland Hope Mission received an $80,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation during the grand opening ceremony of the new Wal-mart Neighborhood Market #3153 in Omaha, NE today. Heartland Hope Mission is the largest food pantry in Nebraska.
The Wal-mart Foundation awarded grants to several organizations including Heartland Hope Mission and the Omaha Food Bank during the grand opening of the Wal-mart Neighborhood Market #3153 located 6710 S 167th St, Omaha, NE 68101 today. Heartland Hope Mission received the largest grant totaling $80,000. The funds will help to purchase a cube truck to transport food items and to buy a large walk-in freezer. Heartland Hope Mission picks up approximately 6 tons of food a month, that is then distributed to the working poor. Last year, Heartland Hope Mission provided over 34,000 people a week’s supply of food. "We truly appreciate Wal-marts donation of $80,000 to help us fight hunger here in Omaha. Currently, 1 out of 5 children are food insecure. With the help from the community and companies like Wal-mart, Heartland Hope Mission anticipates providing over 600,000 meals to those in need this year" says Chelsea Salifou, Executive Director. In addition to food, Heartland Hope Mission supplies clothing, hygiene products, sack lunches and household goods to families in need.
