Chevy's 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel Offers Power and Efficiency

With a base engine power rating of 264 lb-ft of torque, the 2014 Cruze Diesel's output can be enhanced up to 280 lb-ft with a turbocharging feature called “overboost” for about 10 seconds of high-powered acceleration.

“Overboost provides increased performance when the driver demands it, like when passing on the highway,” said Mike Siegrist, the assistant chief engineer on the 2.0L engine. “When the driver leans on the throttle, the turbocharger increases the air and fuel intake over and above what the engine needs for normal torque demand.”

Using this high engine power, the 2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel (http://www.coxchevy.com/models/2014-chevrolet-cruze-diesel/) can climb up from 0 to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds, a half-second faster than the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L TDI. Despite this strength, the Cruze still maintains an efficiency rating of 46 mpg on the highway.  

Like the standard Cruze model, the Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel comes with some of the market's top features, including Chevy's MyLink System with Bluetooth connectivity for handsfree calling, music streaming, and SiriusXM radio, with an available navigation system. The vehicle also includes auxiliary and USB inputs, steering wheel-mounted controls for audio and phone, and a LATCH system for anchoring children's car seats.

The Cruze is also currently a 2013 Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, thanks to its strong performance in crash tests. This distinction should also carry over to the diesel model.
