By: Secret Compass expedition company The episode airs on BBC2 this Friday at 9pm (21 June 2013). As the BBC says, “Kate treks for three weeks in Afghanistan, reaching the wild and remote mountains of the Wakhan Corridor to live with some of the most traditional shepherds on earth. “The Wakhi shepherds of north-east Afghanistan are one of the world's last truly traditional herding cultures, living as they have done for thousands of years, at the mercy of nature and utterly dependent on their animals for survival.” Secret Compass provides location management expertise in remote, inhospitable and post-conflict zones. It works with specialist, extreme sports and natural world production companies who seek a complete risk assessment and project management service in challenging areas like these. The company’s founders are ex-British Paratroop Regiment officers, adept at providing thorough project management, logistics and risk assessment advice. A co-founder, Levison Wood FRGS, said, “We were thrilled to work with Kate on such an unusual and high-profile series. We’ve also discovered and managed remote locations for Animal Planet, National Geographic, and Channel 4. “Most film and TV production companies simply don’t have the knowledge of far-flung destinations to manage this element of their shoot in-house, which is where Secret Compass comes in. Our current, on-the-ground experience of locations from Afghanistan, Kurdistan and Yemen to Madagascar and South Sudan puts us high on most production companies’ agendas when it comes to organising vital film or photography shoots.” Secret Compass’s marketing manager, Kerry O’Neill, said, “We’re also currently assisting Anthill Films – the mountain bike world’s top production company – on a world-first shoot in Afghanistan, with several exciting TV projects in the pipeline for later this year. We’re all looking forward to Kate’s programme this week – and to spotting the accidental cameos from Secret Compass staff in the background!” To catch the wild shepherdess in action, tune in to Kate Humble this Friday on BBC2 at 9pm (or 8pm Saturday in Scotland).
