SAN JOSE, Calif. - June 24, 2013 - PRLog -- SAN JOSE, June 5, 2013— Jan Hutchins, CEO of SocialAgenda Media, gave the commencement address today to the graduating class at Cambrian College Preparatory Academy in San Jose, CA, USA.

Hutchins, former Mayor of Los Gatos, CA, award-winning journalist and yogi shared that “Awareness, conscious choice, persevering through the challenges life offers, leads to accomplishment and fulfillment. Become aware that life is always giving us exactly what we need, exactly when we need it, especially the so-called problems. Aware of this we can then consciously choose to act as if the universe is a magnificent miracle created just for our amusement and illumination. Life becomes fun, something with which to play.”

Hutchins shares: “Despite all the inequities and issues in our world, as I stand here and look around I see bright futures. I appreciate this existence in which the experience of living is possible. I’m aware that what I say at today’s commencement could inspire us to make more conscious choices, live better lives. And I know if we choose to be aware, conscious and brave enough to withstand and adapt to whatever challenges life offers, that we will become leaders in our homes, families, careers and communities, countries, universe.” “For a leader, consciously choosing how to think and choosing what to think about is crucial. Leaders don’t just allow the babble of pop culture and programming of corporate media to fill their minds.”

Hutchins urged the future leaders to “Develop an awareness and compassion about the parts of ourselves that we have been trained to reject and then we can learn compassion for those people and issues we have judged. Knowing that whenever you feel something strongly about others, positive or negative, it’s true about you becomes a wonderful gift – the opportunity to learn about, accept and honor these hidden selves you might have disowned. It teaches you to give others the benefit of the doubt and to love others because you see they are just like you - they do the best they can. It’s how you can learn to actually love your “enemies”.”

Hutchins started his TV career in Pittsburgh, PA, came to San Francisco in 1974 to do weekend sports at KPIX-TV(5), quickly became popular and worked at various times over the next 17 years for KRON-TV(4), KGO radio(810), KCBS radio(740), HBO, ESPN, KICU-TV(36). He is now an entrepreneur and is co-founder and CEO of SocialAgenda Media, a Silicon Valley-based Thought Leadership Marketing company specializing in launching and promoting other visionaries with remarkable ideas and strategies.
