Follow on Google News | Dallas Bar Association Wins State Bar AwardsThis year, the State Bar’s Local Bar Services Committee selected the DBA as the recipient of the Award of Merit for best overall programs, which included the successful DBA Diversity Summit, the Trial Academy and a record-breaking total of $834,000 for the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP) Campaign for Equal Access to Justice. The DBA has numerous programs that benefit the community, including annual supply drives for Dallas ISD and local charities and being the longest-running whole-house sponsor for the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. In addition, Headnotes, the official newsletter of the DBA, received three Star of Achievement Awards for outstanding articles published in Headnotes: Best Feature Story: Al Ellis, of Sommerman & Quesada, L.L.P. Best Human Interest Article: Will Pryor, Attorney at Law; and Michelle Alden, DVAP Managing Attorney Best Series of Substantive Legal Articles: George Shake, of Geary, Porter & Donovan, P.C.; Jenny L. Womack, of Jenny L. Womack, P.C.; and Kelly McClure and Chris Meuse, of McClure Law Group. The Stars of Texas Bar Awards are presented by the State Bar of Texas to recognize local bar associations for outstanding community involvement, commitment to increasing access to justice and dedication to the profession.
