https://www.facebook.com/ FLOWER power and flares will help transport Stroud back to the 1970s when a Vintage Fashion Show is held at the Merrywalks Shopping Centre on Friday. The show, which is sponsored by the SNJ, is compered by Dave Ireland, owner of Time After Time, and will feature outfits created by a team of eight fashion students from SGS College. Dave is a born and bred Stroudie with fashion in his genes. Dave's mother was a spinner at Ebley Mill and Dave grew up in a mill cottage in the shadow of Stanley Mill. A career in fashion and textiles was inevitable. Dave studied fashion and textiles at the Gloucestershire College of Art and Design in Cheltenham during the early 1970s. He followed a career in Amsterdam, combining music with fashion illustration for more than 25 years, before moving back home to Stroud and at first running the hugely successful vintage fairs in Stroud and Oxford. Time After Time, the high street store is now in its fifth year and The Vintage Hour, Dave's weekly radio show on Stroud FM is well into its third year. Reflecting why the 1970s look is so popular Dave said: “The early 1970s look flowed on from the Summer Of Love and gave us a legacy of floral maxi-dresses and a bohemian style filled with flowing sleeves and gossamer prints and everything floaty and romantic. "And that was for both girls and guys. Moving through the decade, we were confronted with both glam rock and punk and every amalgam of the two you could imagine. “The streets of Stroud were filled with attitude - safety pin piercings and sky-high silver platform boots - and now, the 1970s are back." The Merrywalks Vintage Fashion Show starts at 5pm. Bill Wrather, owner of Merrywalks, said: “We have had a great response to the show so far and we are hoping that lots of people come down to see what we have in store. Whether they remember the 1970s from the first time around or are just finding of what it was all about it was a great era that represented fun fashion, full of colour and individuality. We know the show will be a great success.” End
