Follow on Google News | SGS Webinar on EU Chemical Requirements under the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/ECIn June SGS informed you that the EU toy chemical standards EN 71-3:2013 Migration of certain elements and EN 71-5 Chemical toys (sets) other than experimental sets have been published.
Harmonized Toy Safety Standards Details of the new and revised standards can be found in SGS recent SafeGuards publications: - EN 71-3:2013, Migration of certain elements (2) - EN 71-5:2013, Chemical toys (sets) other than experimental sets (3) - EN 71-12:2013, n-Nitrosamines and n-nitrosatable substances On 29 June 2013, the EU Commission harmonized the standards EN 71-3, EN 71-5 and EN 71-12 by publishing Commission Communication 2013/C 187/09 in the OJEU. This means that compliance to these standards gives presumption of conformity with the EU Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. The process of harmonization of toy safety standards consists of two publication steps: 1 - Publication by the standards organization CEN. CEN drafts and agrees on standards that have been developed in cooperation between authorities, industry, consumer representatives and laboratories. 2 - Publication by the EU commission as a harmonized standard in the OJEU. By harmonizing a standard the EU accepts the standard to show legal compliance with the EU Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC. Highlights of the harmonized standards are summarized in a Table 1 within the latest SafeGuards bulletin (http://newsletter.sgs.com/ Complementary SGS Webinar SGS invites you to attend the 60-minute complementary webinar "New toy chemical requirements effective July 20, 2013: Are you ready?” Agenda - Chemical Safety Assessment under the TSD - Status of Toy Safety Standards - Focus on EN 71-3: 2013, EN 71-5:2013, EN 71-12:2013 - Other chemical requirements (CMR, fragrances, etc) - National legislation - Other EU applicable legislation - How SGS can help? - Live Q&A session Click here to register for session 1 (https://sgseventcenter.webex.com/ 16 July 2013, 09:00 a.m. London / 10:00 a.m. Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Amsterdam / 04:00 p.m. Hong Kong Click here to register for session 2 (https://sgseventcenter.webex.com/ 16 July 2013, 04:00 p.m. London / 05:00 p.m. Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Amsterdam / 11:00 a.m. New York References: (1) Publication of titles and references of Harmonized standards under Union harmonization legislation (http://eur- (2) CEN publishes new Toy Safety Standard EN 71-3:2013 for soluble elements - SafeGuards Bulletin June 2013 (http://newsletter.sgs.com/ (3) CEN published revised EN 71-5:2013 for chemical toys (sets) other than experimental sets – SafeGuards Bulletin June 2013 (http://newsletter.sgs.com/ About SGS Toy Safety Services SGS offers a wide range of services to ensure that your products comply with the EU Toy Safety Directive (http://www.sgs.com/ Please do not hesitate to contact an SGS expert for further information.
