Dinnaton Swimming Club Achieves Great Success At Annual Gala

 
PLYMOUTH, U.K. - July 19, 2013 - PRLog -- A total of 27 members of Dinnaton Swimming Club had plenty to celebrate after competing at the annual Devon County Development Gala, held over two weekends in June.

The event saw a record number of swimmers compete for Dinnaton Swimming Club. Despite half of the team competing for the first time, the team achieved great success with a total of 28 medals, including 12 gold, 11 silver and five bronze. Each swimmer achieved something to be proud of in the form of medals or personal bests.

Ten-year-old Cole Haigh had an incredible start to competitive swimming after achieving gold in the 200m Backstroke, 100m Individual Medley (IM), 200m Butterfly and a bronze in the 200m IM in his second competition. George Moss, who was competing for the first time, demonstrated his potential for future competitions after securing a silver medal in the 200m Backstroke.

Ella D’Cunha, one of the squad’s youngest competitors, took on the 200m Butterfly and went on to win a silver medal, along with a bronze in the 200m Breaststroke.

Aegean Bramley achieved great success after winning a total of four medals during the competition, including gold in the 800m Freestyle. Her teammate, Alex Bartlett, juggled competing with birthday parties and despite dashing in and out achieved two gold and three silver medals.

After pulling out of the first weekend of competition due to injury, Quinn Jones returned after a week of rest to take gold and silver in both of his races. Also hindered by injury, Zara Smith was able to soldier on throughout the whole season which saw her perseverance rewarded with a bronze medal in the 200m Butterfly.

Charlotte Craigie’s performance saw her secure gold in the 200m Butterfly, along with the regional time she has been aiming for. She went on to win a further two gold, two silver and a bronze medal. Abigail Bartlett also achieved an impressive number of medals after securing two gold, two silver and three bronze.

Based at McCaulay’s Fitness and Golf Centre in Ivybridge, Dinnaton Swimming Club has grown over the past 25 years to become one of the top competitive swimming clubs in the country, regularly achieving successes in local, regional and national competitions.

From beginners’ lessons through to Masters sessions for adults, the family orientated club provides the opportunity for families to learn to swim or improve their techniques together. Dinnaton Swimming Club also hold two training sessions a week at Plymouth’s 50m pool at the state-of-the-art Life Centre – one of only two facilities of its kind in the region.
