BRADENTON, Fla. - July 22, 2013 - PRLog -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Impala (http://www.coxchevy.com/models/2014-chevrolet-impala/) with a five-star safety rating, the highest possible rating given. This honor highlights the new Impala as a strong choice for safety-conscious drivers and their families. Interested drivers can test drive the 2014 Impala at Cox Chevy in Bradenton, just a short drive from many communities around Sarasota, Tampa, and St. Petersburg.

“Safety is a key consideration for all car buyers, and Impala sets a new benchmark for Chevrolet’s flagship sedan,” said Gay Kent, General Motor's general director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness. “The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is designed to provide excellent crash safety, and offers customers several safety technologies not previously available in Chevrolets.”

A strong body and system of 10 airbags helped the 2014 Impala to garner its 5-star safety rating. Chevrolet recognizes that safety is also an active game, rather than simply reactive.

The Impala is available with a full suite of active safety features, including: crash imminent braking. Using radar technology, the Impala senses obstacles in its path and warns the driver of an impending crash. If the driver does not react, the brakes are automatically applied.

With the lane departure warning system a camera detects lane-lines. The car will send audible alerts to warn the driver if the vehicle begins to drift unintentionally out of its lane. There’s also side blind zone alert. Sensors detect other vehicles that may be in the Impala's blind spots, warning the driver to their presence using LED's mounted on the side mirrors.

To help with parking, there’s a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines. A display in the center console shows the driver what is behind the vehicle, aiding in backing. If you live in a hilly area, there’s also hill hold/start assist. When starting from a stop on a hill, brakes are automatically applied for 1.5 seconds to give the driver time to press the accelerator, reducing the risk of roll-back.
