DUBLIN, Calif. - July 22, 2013 - PRLog -- When you see the purple ribbons lined up on Main Street and other venues, you just know it is time for the 2013 Pleasanton Relay For Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

The Major League Baseball All Star Game also showed their support in the fight against cancer with a touching display of the crowd holding up a signs with a name to show who they stood up for in the fight against cancer.

The annual event, scheduled for July 27-28 will once again be at the Pleasanton Middle School track. Opening ceremonies will start at 10:00 am with Pleasanton Mayor Jerry Thorne among the speakers. It is a time for volunteers, participants and donors to come together to support the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Participants form teams that run and walk laps during the 24-hour event, camping and siclializing together in the center of the track during their breaks. The goal is to have at least one team representative on the track at all times because cancer never sleeps. Florine Johnston, a lead regional volunteer for the American Cancer Society, stressed the need for volunteers to help during the event as well as assist in setting up beforehand on Friday, July 26.

The fundraiser has a goal of raising $105,000, much of which is anticipated to come from donations during and shortly before the event. So far, Relay for Life has 35 teams registered and 284 participants have raised close over $50,000. However, raising money is not the only goal of the relay; it is also to inspire survivors to fight back against cancer and to know that the community supports them.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that helps our community celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

Your reasons for getting involved in Relay For Life are as unique and special as the story that motivates you. Because of your support, we are creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays!
