Duke of Cambridge says young prince has ‘good pair of lungs on him’ and reveals couple are still working on name.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have proudly showed the world their baby son, a future king, before taking him home.

William and Kate emerged from the Lindo wing of St Mary’s hospital in London to begin their new lives as parents, cradling their baby prince and posing for pictures on the steps outside.

The Duchess carried the baby in her arms as she and William emerged from St Mary’s Hospital at 7.11pm, briefly holding her son one handed as she waved to the gathered crowds, and bouncing him in her arm to keep him calm in the hullabaloo.

He said: “He’s got a good pair of lungs on him, that’s for sure. He’s a big boy, he’s quite heavy. We are still working on a name so we will have that as soon as we can.”

The baby, little more than 24 hours old, was wrapped in a shawl and playing his fingers near Kate’s hair. As William waved to the crowds hanging out of windows to catch a glimpse, Kate kept an eye on their precious bundle to see he was not disturbed by the cheering.

He was delivered at 1624 BST and weighed 8lbs 6oz. Prince William was present for the birth.
