Insight and Information from the NCDD

The NCDD is a non-profit corporation based in Montgomery, Alabama, that works to improve the criminal defense bar and inform the public about DUI defense law. Today, the NCDD is the only organization in the United States that is accredited for certifying attorneys in the specialty practice area of DUI defense law. The NCDD states that its mission is to provide the finest advanced-level training available for practitioners of DUI defense law.

The Summer Session is conducted each year at the Harvard Law School in July and is the NCDD’s signature program. The session is limited in size so that student/faculty ration can stay low, with 140 lawyers accepted for the program each year. Attendees take part in seminars concerning attacking field sobriety tests, techniques for cross examining witnesses for the prosecution, and utilizing defense expert witnesses.

Topics covered at the NCDD 2013 Summer Session included cross examination, hearing and trial preparation, legal ethics, expert testimony presentation, opening statements, closing statements, jury presumption, forensic alcohol and drug research, and themes within a trial. Attorneys from across the states attended the seminar to gain insight and new perspectives on DUI defense tactics and the challenges faced both inside and outside the courtroom.
