1919 in San Antonio Offers Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Tasting

What does a $25,000 Single Malt Taste Like? 1919 in San Antonio offers Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Tasting on September 4, 2013.

SAN ANTONIO - Aug. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Only 50 bottles of Glenfiddich 50 Year Old are available worldwide this year; only six in the U.S. It is one of the rarest and most precious expressions of authentic Single Malt Whisky ever released by Scotland’s most distinguished distillery. The limited edition bottle, which retails for $25,000 - $27,000, will be available to taste for $1,500 per person. The once-in-a-lifetime experience, presented by 1919, noted as one of San Antonio’s most prestigious mixology establishments showcasing over 400 spirits, will be held on Wednesday, September 4th starting promptly at 7:00 p.m.

The unforgettable evening will also feature five other collectible single malts, such as the Glenfiddich 30 Year Old and 1974 Vintage, and an exquisite five-course meal crafted by Executive Chef Stefan Bowers of Feast. Glenfiddich Ambassador David Allardice, a native Scotsman who grew up driving distance from the Glenfiddich distillery, will host the evening and share his passion and expertise about the most awarded single malt whisky, Glenfiddich, and the prized dram.

“This whisky is the jewel in Glenfiddich’s crown and amongst the most valuable whiskies ever released,” explains Allardice. “Time and tradition have contributed to making every drop of this beautifully matured whisky some of the most precious Glenfiddich has to offer.”

The nose is beautifully harmonious with an uplifting, vibrant and complex aroma. The taste is initially sweet with a zesty orange marmalade and vanilla toffee, which then cascades through a wonderful series of layers: aromatic herbs, floral and soft fruits, silky oak tannin and hints of gentle smoke. The finish is exceptionally long with a touch of dry oak and the merest trace of peat.

Don Marsh, owner of 1919 said, “Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is a prized possession. To have one of only two bottles in Texas exemplifies the world-class standard and unique opportunities that 1919 provides for our guests.”

The exclusive bottle features a solid silver bottle-neck, crafted and stamped with the William Grant & Sons hallmark by sixth-generation silversmiths and Royal Warrant holder, Thomas Fattorini. In addition to this, the packaging, rich with authenticity and heritage, also reflects the excellence of the whisky. The Glenfiddich 50 Year Old is set in a beautifully hand-stitched, leatherbound case, inspired by William Grant’s personal ledgers. Nestled inside the case is a leather-bound book which details the whisky’s rich history. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, signed by Charles Gordon, Life President and William’s great-grandson, as well as all the key long-serving craftsmen. Owners are also invited to register their ownership by having the certificate personally signed by William Grant’s great-great-grandson, Peter Gordon. It will then be recorded in the Glenfiddich ledger.

Warehouse 8, the final resting place of the two casks that went into making Glenfiddich 50 Year Old, is Glenfiddich’s most revered warehouse. The cold, damp atmosphere of the traditional earth-floored, stone-walled warehouse is ideally suited to housing decades-old casks and is the home of Glenfiddich’s most prized whiskies.
