By: T & H Your home is an investment, and maintaining its beauty and durability is very easy and only requires a few hours of your time and knowing what products you should use. Some minor maintenance now can save you big money in replacement and repair in the future. Most damage to concrete is caused from water and salt. Water can enter the surface of concrete from many different ways. Humidity, water in the air, sprinklers just to name a few. Once the water slowly works its way into the concrete it just takes a few winter freeze thaw cycles for the very small amount of water to freeze. It then expands and as a result you end up with a pop or flaking affect. By sealing your concrete project you can put a protective layer on top of the concrete which helps prevent the water and humidity from entering the concrete and as a result your concrete driveway will last for many years. No sealer and putting down the wrong types of salt can lead to a 5 year old driveway looking like it is 30 years old. You all have seen this as you drive thru some of the newer communities. How frustrating it must be. You spent a lot of money on this product and you are expecting it to last a very long time. It can and it will but it needs to be sealed on a regular basis to ensure this. How often you might ask. It depends on what type of sealer you use and how bad the winters are. Penetrating sealers are more costly but also last much longer. Most penetrating sealers can not be applied to new concrete so as a result when you have a new concrete driveway poured, if the contractor is sealing it they are most likely using a cure and seal type of sealer that really only last about 6 months. Its more to help the concrete cure out than it actually does sealing it. There is only a few penetrating sealers on the market that you can apply to new concrete and most people do not stock them because they do not know about them. They are new and if you do not put the time and research into your trade then you cannot possibly keep up with everything so that you can always offer your customers the very best products out there. T & H Foundations and Concrete services in St Charles Mo has that very penetrating sealer and it is applied to all of our concrete projects on the very first day. We also offer a full line of services which include sealing your driveways, patios, bringing old stamped concrete projects back to life. Call us today at 636-493-0813 to find out more.
