Aug. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- ST. LOUIS – HBD Construction has begun work as the general contractor for Urban Chestnut Brewing Company’s new location. With the design, budget, and abatement in its final stages, the general contractor and construction management team is working with property developer, Green Street Development Group, and architect, Trivers Associates, to renovate the former Renard Paper Company at 4465 Manchester Avenue. The new location is expected to fall within a budget of $3.1 million for the 58,000 square foot production brewery, packaging facility, warehouse and indoor/outdoor retail tasting room.

“With HBD’s experience in adaptive use renovation projects and our design build team approach, we are thrilled to be included in such a popular project in the City of St. Louis,” said HBD President, Mike Perry. “Working with Urban Chestnut and Green Street to get this project moving has been great, and we look forward to raising our stein next year once the project is complete.”

HBD Construction will provide supervision, carpentry and general labor on the facility which is projected to be completed in early 2014. There are unique, ‘green’ aspects included in the build to minimize Urban Chestnut’s energy footprint as well. HBD will work with LEED consultants at PHDesigns, Solutions AEC, and Straightup Solar, a solar array contractor, as they seek LEED certification. Innovative real estate firm Green Street St. Louis, is also recognized for the sustainable redevelopment of underutilized St. Louis-area commercial properties into LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified buildings. This is the 2nd project Green Street and HBD Construction have worked on together in 2013.

Urban Chestnut, a two-and-a-half year old St. Louis, MO craft brewery, plans to brew, package and sell beer at both of its locations.  The current 20 barrel brew house, tasting room and Biergarten, located at 3229 Washington Ave in Midtown St. Louis, will remain open and will be used for testing, brewing, and packaging smaller batch beers. The new brewery will have an annual capacity of approximately 15,000 barrels using a 60 barrel brewhouse, with the space to expand to 100,000 barrels.

HBD provides general contracting, design/build and construction management. The company is also working on a number of high profile projects in the St. Louis area, including being recently named the Construction Manager for the Forest Park hospital site conversion for the St. Louis Zoo. The site conversion includes demolishing the Forest Park hospital, grading the site for additional surface parking and rehabbing the seven story parking garage. The project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2014. HBD has also experienced national growth with projects in Illinois, Kansas City, Minnesota, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Nevada.
