NEW YORK - Aug. 23, 2013 - PRLog --

(Thursday, 22nd August 2013) – Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Ron Prosor, joined international attorney, advocate for victims of terrorism and former B’nai B’rith International President, Richard D. Heideman, at a briefing of Heideman's new book last night at the Fifth Avenue Synagogue in New York City. Additional speakers included Rabbi Yaacov Kermaier of the Fifth Avenue Synagogue; and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

The book, The Hague Odyssey: Israel’s Struggle for Security on the Front Lines of Terrorism and Her Battle for Justice at the United Nations, tells the story of Israel’s relationship with the International court system and the United Nations. In the book, Heideman challenges the current international system and presents a compelling and insightful defense of the absolute right and obligation of the State of Israel, as every other nation, to protect her citizens.

Ambassador Prosor described Heideman's commitment to human rights: “Not only standing up for Israel, but standing up for what is right.” Prosor further noted how Heideman, who filed a brief with the International Court of Justice and was lead counsel in hearings in the Hague at the time the U.N. sought the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the legality of Israel's terrorism prevention security fence and barrier then under construction between Israeli and the Palestinian territory on the West Bank.

Malcolm Hoenlein continued with an explanation of Israel's challenges among the nations of the world and addressed Heideman's allegiance to seeking justice for all mankind: “If you stand with strength, you win.”

On Tuesday August 27th in Jerusalem, Heideman will launch The Hague Odyssey at the Menachem Begin Heritage Center, featuring an address by Yuval Shany, Dean of the Hebrew University Faculty of Law who also serves a member of the UN’s Human Rights Committee, as well as Marc Belzberg of the One Family Fund.

Last night's event was cosponsored by the Fifth Avenue Synagogue, the Lawfare Project, B’nai B’rith International UN Affairs, and American Friends of Likud.
