Black Tie Week: Celebrities Suit Up To Save Our Sons

LOS ANGELES - Aug. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- Another celebrity court appearance, funeral or wedding to attend? No, in fact, there is no greater reason to wear a suit than to help save our sons. Celebrities committed to taking a visible stand against violence and improving the public perception of young black men in America are leveraging their stardom in support of Black Tie Week September 3rd-8th.

Actors Teck Holmes (Cartoon Network/Hole In The Wall) and Eric Bivens-Bush (Burn Notice) founded the Black Tie movement. Various actors-including Wesley Jonathan (TV Land/The Soul Man), Aldis Hodge (Leverage), Edwin Hodge (The Purge), Nicholas “The World Famous N.I.C.” Demps (Truth Hall), Shawn Carter Peterson (The Host), Dennis L.A. White (Notorious), Malik Barnhardt (Gun), Toryan Rogers (The Prodigal) and director/writer Terry Gingles, attended a Black Tie Week photo shoot to support the movement. Renowned photographer Lanisha Cole, makeup artist Hanna Morrow and entertainment publicist Sherise Ford were there and contributed their services to Black Tie Week as well.

When actor Wesley Jonathan was asked how a suit makes him feel, he answered “It makes me feel smart, intelligent, strong. “A suit lets the public know that you are productive,” added Los Angeles Highway Patrol Officer De’Shawn Cobbs, who also participated in the Black Tie Week photo shoot.

The Trayvon Martin case has inspired the men to come together to encourage a solution for improving the public perception of Black Americans. “How a person dresses is how they are perceived. Black Tie Week brings our entire community together to change the perception of young black men,” says Teck Holmes, Founder of Black Tie Week.

If you would like to show your support, please wear a suit and tie the week of September 3rd through September 8th to recognize the importance of racial profiling and violence prevention. This week-long tribute  is to raise national consciousness of the devastating racial profiling problem in our country, and to acknowledge our ongoing commitment to addressing the urgent needs of our youth.
