So everybody loves a moisturizer, especially with it's soft feeling, right?

Aren't they meant to work by making you look younger and your skin that bit clearer, as I'm sure we're told daily in the commercials.

Aug. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Aren't they meant to work by making you look younger and your skin that bit clearer, as I'm sure we're told daily in the commercials.

Moisturizers are made up of a complex ingredients of chemical agents, that are designed to help the outer layers of the skin to become softer and to increase the skin's hydration by reducing any evaporation.

There's lot's of various types of moisturizers or creams that are "meant" to work effectively, however, with a moisturizer, they are not all tailored to all the different types of skin but our skin has two main properties, these are vascular dermis and avascular epidermis.

Moisturizers contain a vital ingredient called Hydroxy Acids known as Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Beta Hydroxy acids, these are meant to rid the body of dead skin cells. These acids are mostly made up of lactic acid (better known from sour milk) as well as citric (widely known as being from citrus fruits) and glycolic acid (coming from sugar cane) others are malic acid contained in apples and tartaric acid from grape wine, (so you wine lovers should like that one).

Although regarded as being safe when used as a cosmetic product on the skin as instructed by the manufacturers guidelines, the can be downsides to the use of the mositurizers from the acids, such as a stinging sensation, some irritation and redness as well as flaking and they can make the skin more prone to damage when exposed to the sun, and in rare cases, blistering and burning.

However an upside is when used as the first product of the day, it allows other products to work on the skin better, while also helping to keep your skin smooth and improving any sign of acne.

The main usage of a moisturizer is for preventing the skin from becoming too dry or oily, for those with dry skin, moisturizers that are heavier and oil based are best used as they contain antioxidants.

Those with oily skin, the best moisturizers that are water based and essentially noncomedogenic are more preferable to use.

For people with sensitive skin, the preferable moisturizers to use are those that contain such soothing agents as chamomile or aloe and with minimal allergens like fragrances and dyes.

With aging skin, oil based moisturizers that have petrolatum and antioxidants or the AHA (alpha hydroxyl acids to help against wrinkles, are the preferred type, so as to keep the aging skin soft and hydrated.
