Follow on Google News | High School Senior starts her own CompanyLangley High School Senior, Akila Prayaga, creates online start-up
By: Ycareer Akila’s inspiration for starting such an organization was that she was amazed of all the “student opportunities that are available to high school students that a lot of high school students don’t know about.” She continues saying “there are also a lot of internships available to high school students but they really just don’t know about the programs out there.” Akila, herself, has interned at various companies, starting with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History doing the Younth Engagement through Science (YES!) program in her freshman year of high school, the United States Korean Arts Foundation (USKAF), Fairfax County Republican Committee, and the Design Apprenticeship Program at the National Building Museum in her sophomore year of high school, and the Bank of America Student Leaders Program and Givology in her Junior year of high school. Akila has also started her own nonprofit called Today’s Readers Tomorrow’s Leaders (TRTL) in the past, which aims to help disadvantaged kids receive better educational opportunities. Akila has collected over 2,000 books and educational supplies, made over 30 educational packets, 70 educational care packages, and 20 audio recordings of public domain books for Today’s Readers Tomorrow’s Leaders (TRTL). She has also started a volunteer outreach program called Youth Literacy Initiative (YLI), which helps other high school students start their own literacy programs in their communities.
