Aug. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- The Honda Accord, available at Hendrick Honda Pompano Beach, a trusted Ft Lauderdale area Honda dealer, has been through many changes over the years. From the first year of its debut until today, the different generations of Honda Accords helped create its rich history.

The first generation of the Honda Accord was from 1976-1981, and it was built with low-emissions and a high-mileage spec to reduce emission output during the energy crisis. It won numerous awards, including Car of the Year from Motor Fan Magazine in 1976 and Road Test Magazine in 1977.

From 1982-1985, the second generation Honda Accord was redesigned with a new exterior and interior, mechanics and finish for the purpose of achieving the best quality in a compact car. In 1982, the Honda Accord became the best selling Japanese car in America, a record it held until 1996.

The Evolution of a Classic Vehicle

The third generation of the Accord from 1986-1989 was built with a new aeroshape and a spacious interior to give it a sporty look and help increase value. It won Japan car of the year in 1985 and 1986. From 1990-1993, the fourth generation Accord was redeveloped into a sedan and became more efficient for drivers everywhere.

Fort Lauderdale Honda fans know that the fifth generation from 1994-1997 was built with all the tools and technologies required for a next-generation sedan. In 1994, it won both the US Ten Best Cars Award and the U.S. Imported Car of the Year. From 1998-2002, the sixth generation Accord saw new sedan and wagon versions that helped improve driving safety.

The seventh generation Accord from 2003-2007 paved the way for future midsize cars with its high-performance, DOHC i-VTEC engine, 244 horsepower and world-class aerodynamic features. The eighth generation from 2008-2012 has a little backstory; it was not sold in Europe, and was actually sold as the Honda Inspire in Japan until it was discontinued in September 2012.

The ninth generation Honda Accord is the one we know and love today. For 2013, the 270 horsepower Accord used strut suspension, the first model to use it since the second generation. Shoji Matsui, who was an engineer for the Accord from 1985-1996, was appointed as lead project manager.
