Sept. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- The trilogy: This White House, Going Sane and A Spectacular Dawn, are currently being reviewed worldwide by psychologists and professors for use in the classroom to help them understand the impact of abuse.

You can download or order your copy of the first book in this trilogy at http://www.amazon.com/dp/1482773120.

During October and November, an exhibit of Gabriel Orion Marie’s artwork titled My Fire; The Alchemy of Abuse will be featured in Chicago at the Awakenings Foundation, a private operating foundation created to support and showcase the artistic expression of survivors of rape and/or sexual abuse.

Libby Schmanke, ATR-BC (Board Certified Art Therapist) had the following to say about the books:

“It is difficult not to be in awe of what Gabriel Orion Marie has accomplished.  She has thoroughly healed from incest, unremitting throughout her childhood, which included sexual torture and being prostituted and used for child pornography.  Left with a splintered personality and multiple psychiatric and medical conditions, she found the strength in midlife to seek assistance in reclaiming her life. “Dr. A,” a psychologist, became her refuge, mirror, and witness as she proceeded over eight years to unearth experiences, express emotions, honor her inner selves, unify her persona, grieve, forgive, and cultivate a blossoming spiritual life.

Early in therapy, Gabriel despaired of ever being able to communicate the depth of her experience in words; and due to brainwashing, she feared, beyond rational thought, to “tell” on her father.  At the suggestion of Dr. A, she began painting her experience and bringing the artwork to her therapy sessions.  Art therapists and others know the value of art making in working with trauma patients. These books support, illustrate, and expand on this knowledge in a unique way. This author not only “has been there” and created a quantity of evocative art work, but is amazingly perceptive and eloquent in her writing about the therapeutic relationship and her personal evolution.

I wholeheartedly recommend this set of books as a resource for students and professionals alike.  I know that I will continue to refer to them in my private practice as an art therapist, as a university educator of graduate art therapy students, and as a post-graduate supervisor.”

About the Author

Gabriel Orion Marie is a Canadian Author and Artist. She wrote the trilogy to share her personal story of surviving intense torture, brainwashing and incest during childhood and how she embarked upon an epic healing journey that saved her life and restored her sanity. This journey included an unexpected method of communicating and healing from the inexpressible by drawing and painting with an enlightened witness as her guide.

There are many themes in the areas of wounding and healing from sexual abuse, incest, and torture, and for her books, she has chosen themes that were most prominent in her journey. She created over 325 paintings and drawings during several years of therapy and arranged selections of them by themes for chapters. She tried to choose paintings in each topic that she felt would communicate best what she was trying to share.

It is her hope that her books will bring hope, courage and insight to others who have suffered from the violence of others, and also that they will be a source of deeper understanding for those who are in the helping professions. She has opened the doors of her most personal experience of wounding and also the door into the sacred arena of therapy where her healing sprang from.
