DALLAS - Aug. 31, 2013 - PRLog -- RICHARDSON, TX (August 28, 2013)… Everyone is welcome at Richardson’s Cottonwood Art Festival, and that includes Prophets and Outlaws. The Southern rock band with soul will headline Saturday at the fall festival, which will be held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6, 2013, at the City of Richardson’s Cottonwood Park. The band will perform from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Prophets and Outlaws (www.reverbnation.com/prophetsandoutlaws) have embraced their country roots while developing a sound that also includes a passion for blues – and celebrating the people who paved the way. Elements of the old "outlaw" music can be seen in their attitude and the way they push the boundaries of today’s music.

After Matt Boggs heard James and Steven Guckenheimer perform “Why Georgia” when he was in high school, he asked Steven to become his guitarist. As the Matt Boggs Band, Steven and Matt played shows throughout Texas and Oklahoma. During this time, James and Steven formed a band with Matt Murrow and Benji Harris called Rigby. Both bands built followings. After college, Rigby became the opening and backing band for Matt Boggs, who competed on CMT’s Can You Duet. Realizing what they had, the two bands created a super-group – Prophets and Outlaws.

Now in its 44th year, Richardson’s bi-annual Cottonwood Art Festival (http://www.cottonwoodartfestival.com/)is a juried show. Jurors have selected more than 240 artists (http://www.cottonwoodartfestival.com/7.html) from 1,400 submissions to exhibit their museum-quality work at the festival. The artists compete in 14 categories: 2D Mixed Media, 3D Mixed Media, Ceramics, Digital, Drawings/Pastels, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Leather, Metalwork, Painting, Photography, Sculpture and Wood. Rated as one of the top art festivals in the United States, the prestigious show is the premier fine art event in North Texas.

Richardson’s Cottonwood Art Festival takes place Saturday, Oct. 5, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Cottonwood Park, located at 1321 W. Belt Line Road, one block east of Coit Road in Richardson, TX. Parking and admission are free. The artists’ works are available for purchase, as are food and beverages.

Children have their own escape – to ArtStop, Cottonwood’s hands-on, interactive children's area offering arts, crafts and activities for children of all ages. Although admission to the festival is free, some ArtStop activities require a small fee.

In addition to Prophets and Outlaws, the festival featuresother top local bands performing the best in rock, country, jazz, blues, swing and folk. Check out the courtyard, sit in the shade by the lake, relax and enjoy the music. Food and spirits are also available in the courtyard.
