Nevada Businesses Await Regulations for Marijuana Dispensaries

LAS VEGAS - Sept. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- The Nevada Legislature’s approval of Senate Bill 374, signed into law by Gov. Brian Sandoval in June, authorizes up to 40 medical marijuana dispensaries in Clark County. So when the City of Las Vegas recently announced it was directing city staff to not accept land use, business license or building permit applications for marijuana businesses, the news raised some eyebrows.

National Licensing Services (NLS), a Las Vegas-based business, liquor and gaming licensing firm, offers some advice to people eager to get licensed in Nevada for the sale of medical marijuana: Do your homework and be patient.

“Nevada has approved medical marijuana dispensaries, now it’s important for officials in each local jurisdiction to get the regulations right. Nevada is required to devise regulations for medical marijuana businesses by April 2014 and could have them before the end of the year. Below are other key dates for state regulators:

·       December 2013: Adoption of regulations for medical marijuana

·       Jan – March 2014: Approval of regulations

·       April 2014: Secure tentative approval from local governments

·       April 2014: Applications Accepted
