ACTE launch EC2G Cellular gateway modem for telemetry add on applications

BASINGSTOKE, U.K. - Sept. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Representing a step change by adding “plug and play” connectivity via a single industrial connector, EC2G, allows access to remote data via the Cellular mobile phone networks. EC2G has been designed for OEM’s and Systems Integrators building their own products who perhaps from lack of RF expertise, electronic design capability or time, want to implement a reliable and proven “off the shelf” cellular modem solution.

EC2G utilises an industrial grade M2M wireless engine and is available in dual band GSM 900/1800MHz or quad band GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz to provide European or Global cellular connectivity options. EC2G is designed to “embed and forget” in equipment operating in remote locations where service access may be difficult or costly. EC2G incorporates a hardware watchdog mechanism to ensure automatic recovery from transient failures.

Key features include micro power option for battery powered applications, input voltage of 5 to 22V DC, wide temperature operating range of -30˚C to 70˚C and remote firmware updating and management.

EC2G modems provide a transparent connection over TCP/IP or CSD bearers. For compatibility with existing software, the modem supports industry standard AT commands. EC2G can be configured to accept incoming TCP/IP or CSD connections without any intervention from the host system. This enables it to be used with any systems with a compatible serial interface via the 25 way D connector. This industry standard data port enables the EC2G to be connected to equipment in place of a fixed line modem – once installed it will operate like a leased line modem.

Measuring just 24 x 56 x 60mm and light enough to be mounted via the 25 way connector, EC2G can be powered via the 25 pin serial connector or via a DC jack. An RF connector provides an antenna input and a push-push SIM card holder is provided for a 1.8V or 3V SIM card. The modem is encased in a two part welded plastic with a multicolour LED providing modem status.
