Preparing for Life: WSP Film Premiere & 30th Anniversary Reception Friday, September 20 7-10 PM Foothill College Smithwick Auditorium 12345 El Monte Road Los Altos Hills, Ca On Friday, September 20 at 7:00 pm, Waldorf School of the Peninsula (WSP) invites the public to a premiere screening of Preparing for Life, a new documentary film about the school. A year in the making, and distilled from interviews, classroom activities, drama and music performances, sporting events and seasonal festivals, the film captures the essence of Waldorf education and weaves an expansive story about how WSP is preparing students to be “21st century smart.” The documentary was born out of the high level of press interest in the school and Waldorf education over the last two years, after a front-page story in the October 22, 2011 Sunday New York Times focused a national spotlight on WSP. The article explored an apparent contradiction in Silicon Valley, the heart of new technology: Why were so many high-tech executives sending their children to a school that eschewed the use of computers from kindergarten through grade school? Newspapers across the country and around the world ran stories, and television networks, including CBS (local and national), NBC and CNN, visited our school and broadcast features nationwide. Waldorf School of the Peninsula was established in 1984 by a small group of parents and educators, who were motivated by the great need, in the highly technological area of Silicon Valley, for a school that would address the heart and will as well as the mind of the child. WSP currently serves approximately 300 students in our nursery through high school programs. A live program and a reception celebrating our 30th year in Silicon Valley will follow the film. http://waldorfpeninsula.org/ Contact: Lucy Valentine Wurtz Development and Outreach Director, Waldorf School of the Peninsula lvwurtz@waldorfpeninsula.org www.waldorfpeninsula.org 650/303-4126 (http://www.waldorfpeninsula.org) End
