By: Gleaners Community Food Bank Mow Down Hunger campaign proceeds will support Gleaners’ efforts to reach children at risk of hunger, through programs such as BackPack and school-based mobile pantries. The BackPack program distributes backpacks filled with nutritious food for the weekend. Each mobile pantry distribution provides approximately 200 households with 50 pounds of nonperishable food, produce and protein. “Our family has long supported programs that provide for people in the community who are hungry,” said Weingartz President Dan Weingartz. “Four years ago, when Weingartz stepped in as the Mow Down Hunger matching sponsor, we were excited to see how our customers, and especially employees, embraced the campaign. We are humbled by their generosity." Last year, the Mow Down Hunger campaign raised over $310,000, providing nearly 1 million meals to feed hungry children. “Weingartz support will give hundreds of children across southeast Michigan the food they need to grow up healthy and strong,” said Gleaners President DeWayne Wells. “No child should ever go hungry and Weingartz’s commitment to our community’s children is greatly appreciated.” Donations can be made: Call: 855-315-FOOD (3663) Text: “EAT” to 85944 (a $10 donation will automatically be added to donor’s phone bill) Online: Visit www.MowDownHunger.com Mail: Make check payable to Gleaners Community Food Bank (memo: Mow Down Hunger), P.O.
