Ukulele Rock-Anthem Crushes Depression with Crowd-Sourced Gang Vocals

SAN DIEGO - Sept. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- NextGen music label ArtisTech Media is pleased to announce the release of “Too Depressed for the Ukulele (Featuring Friends)” on TuneTrack today. Kara Square’s latest single features a crowd-sourced chorus of ten internet friends and three types of ukuleles.  It is released with a Creative Commons license (CC-BY-NC-SA) to encourage sharing and continued creativity.

“As the title suggests, I was very depressed when I started to write “Too Depressed for the Ukulele,” Kara Square shares.  “But as I continued to play the uke, my spirits lifted.  A positive ending seemed to magically appear.  The excitement from this songwriting experience inspired me to invite everyone to sing-along.  I’m just so happy and lucky that so many wonderful, talented friends joined me.  The harmonies and melodies that evolved as each vocalist sent me their track took the song in a direction that I never imagined.  The ending is a great example of this- it’s entirely created from the ingenuity of the group.”

The gifted friends who shared their talent include: TheDICE (vocals and cover art), Jack Burgess (vocals and bass), Mary Burgess, Shannon Root Lee, Rob Walker, Nealbot, Speck, SackJo22, Moira Waugh, and Snowflake.

Kara Square is a ukulele slinging nerd who will write a song about anything. She recently released her first solo folk pop album Love Songs for Everyone but Especially Uke [March 2013].  She is currently creating an ongoing instrumental album called Ukulele Duels.  Kara also loves collaborating.  She has a Tex-Mex guitar and ukulele surfer pop rock album in the works with Piero Peluche (Italian multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, and producer) called Square Meter.  She has produced music with Rich Ratvasky as Team Smile and Nod for over nine years (Look Both Ways Before You Die [2008], Mourning Time [2011], Dust from the Stars [upcoming album release]).  Kara Square is an active member of the international Creative Commons remix website ccMixter.org.  Since joining ccMixter in June of 2010, her songs have been remixed over 440 times.  Her music has been released on many compilation albums including “Free! Music! Sampler Freeloaded” [2010], ccMixter’s “Emergence” [2011], Lawrence Lessig and ccMixter’s “Strike the Root” [2011], and CMR Ohio’s “Occupy Columbus” [2011].  Her vocals are featured on acclaimed Turkish musician, Murat Ses’ album “Light Cone” [2012] (track 2, “Chiral of Past”).
