When a homeowner is faced with flood damage, it is important to know what to do in case mold or mildew has the chance of appearing and spreading.  If a carpet or rug has been soaked for more than 24 hours, it is usually a good idea to replace it.  Getting the carpet professionally cleaned can also be an option if the carpet has not been soaked for more than 24 hours.

Yasrebi of M3 Flooring and Interiors says, “It’s best to use certified professional drain in water restoration in order to insure carpet, pad and subfloor are completely dry within 12-24 hours to prevent mold.  However, if the carpet is contaminated with sweat, it is recommended to completely dispose carpet and pad.”

When it comes to a home, sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry.  Mold and mildew can easily be breathed in or children who play on the floor can get it in their mouth.  A safe and feasible solution can be to have a floor replaced even though it can cost more than just a cleaning.
