Valley VW Dealers Announces Winner of United Blood Services' “Drive Away a Hero” Campaign

GILBERT, Ariz. - Sept. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Valley Volkswagen Dealers recently donated a brand-new 2013 VW Passat S for United Blood Services' “Drive Away a Hero” campaign, and on Wednesday, September 18 Robert Heslip was announced the winner (http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/video?clipId=9320166&autostart=true) in a grand prize ceremony in Scottsdale, AZ. Heslip was one of ten finalists whose names were drawn from a pool of over 44,542 people. In order to be entered for the drawing, people from all over the U.S. were asked to give blood at some point between June 1 and August 31.

Heslip has donated blood over 100 times in the past 50 years, starting as far back as when he was a teenager and continuing throughout his time in the Navy. He said he makes it a point today to stop in at any blood drives he sees being held near his New York insurance agency.

“It really feels good because you do something, but you never know what the results are. Today, I got a little emotional when they gave the name of somebody who got my blood,” said Heslip. Earlier in the ceremony there was a story about how a man in a Valley hospital who was fighting cancer had received red blood cells from Heslip's previous donations.

As part of their commitment to their respective communities, the seven Valley Volkswagen Dealers were proud to support United Blood Services in their efforts to increase blood donations throughout the summer.
