BEST Inc Develops New Solder Mask Repair Process

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. - Oct. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- BEST Inc. announces the development of a new method for repairing both large areas requiring solder mask repair and the same area requiring repair on many PCBs. This method, developed by BEST engineers working on customer PCB repairs, uses a thin polymer precision stencil along with UV or heat-curable solder mask to quickly and consistently repair mask damage. On a typical repair, taking an hour with older IPC hand touch up methods, shrinks to 15 minutes or less using this method.
These masks are laser cut from a high temperature polymer film. Using the customer’s marked up GERBER data and a “to be repaired” PCB, the mask files are generated. These stencils are then used by aligning them and placing them over the area, replacement mask squeegeed through the designed openings and cured. Upon removal and cleaning, the repaired area is inspected. The polymer StencilMask™ stencils are 0.014in (.045mm) in thickness and leaves only benign adhesive residue behind, which can be cleaned back after stencil removal.

BEST can accept customer GERBER other file formats for creation of these masks. StencilMask™ stencils are packaged (3) per bag and are shipped 3 business days after drawing approval. The precision of the cuts out is 0.001” (0.025mm) with the maximum mask size being 4” (101.6mm) x 4” (101.6mm).
