EATONTOWN, N.J. - Oct. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Toms River, NJ – The Center for Vocational Rehabilitation’s (CVR) Toms River facility held their 14th Annual Talent Show last Friday. The show included singing, dancing, air guitar and musical performances. The annual event is held as part of CVR’s ongoing initiative to increase socializations opportunities that allow expression and interaction among their special needs participants.

“This year’s event was fantastic,” said Kristen Robertori, Program Director at CVR-Toms River. “The show was filled with some truly talented men and women, including, one of our special needs participants who is a classical pianist. I was also amazed to see one of our participants, who almost never talks, get up there and sing. It just shows you why we do what we do. Each one of our special needs participants has something to offer and it our job to help them show the world. Overall, it is great to come together as a CVR family and cheer each other on.”

CVR’s Toms River facility supports over 75 special needs participants on a daily basis. Individuals participate in a variety of programs that are geared toward becoming positive contributors to their community’s workforce. CVR’s Toms River facility also actively employs people with special needs in its on-site production center.

“The number one priority of CVR is to improve the quality of life for individuals with special needs,” said Travis Johnson, Marketing and Activities Coordinator at CVR. “Our day-to-day mission is focused on developing skills that help our participants become employed in the community. But, we are also cognizant of the fact that exposure and participation in the arts can help improve self-expression and communication. The talent show is a great opportunity to celebrate how truly special our participants are while also helping them to gain valuable social experience and skills.”
