The hybrid powertrain of the CR-Z is comprised of a 1.5L 4-cylinder, 16-valve, single-overhead cam (SOHC) engine with Intelligent Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (i-VTEC). Along with this engine is a 15-kW electric motor powered by a 144-volt Lithium-Ion battery pack, which together deliver 130 hp as well as 140 lb-ft of torque.

Depending on preference and driving conditions, drivers can select from three different operating modes: Econ, Normal, and Sport. The standard Plus Sport system allows for increased acceleration by simply pressing the “S+” button located on the steering wheel.
