John Palmer Art Hosts 6th Annual Evening of Escapism

HOUSTON - Nov. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- On October 19, 2013, the John Palmer Art Gallery and Studio hosted its sixth annual gala event, An Evening of Escapism. This event honored the graduates of Palmer’s prestigious Escapist Mentorship Program (EscapistProgram.com) with a massive exhibit of their original artwork.  The 2013 Escapist Artists are Tina Duryea, Joe Mendietta, William H. Miller, Lan Norwood and Lee E. Wright.  The black-tie affair also featured a massive silent art auction, a live painting by Escapism Founder John Ross Palmer and entertainment by the legendary Kofi.  The non-profit beneficiary of the evening was John Palmer Art’s Charity of the Year, Writers in the Schools.  The Executive Director of WITS, Robin Reagler, attended to speak on behalf of the charity and gave huge accolades from the year of support from John Palmer Art.

The Evening of Escapism also toasted a number of individuals with high honors.  The Collector of the Year presentation, known as the Vallone Award and given by Lia Vallone, was made to Dr. D. Lynn Dickens, owner of ASAP Allergy Clinic.  The Ryan Award, presented to an individual or couple that has shown extraordinary friendship, support or sacrifice for the business, went to Palmer enthusiasts Alfredo Tijerina and J.P. Anderson.  The Escapist of the Year Award was presented to Artist William H. Miller.  This award is determined by confidential vote of all current and former Escapist Artists.  As a result of the magical evening, John Palmer Art was able to make a $2,500 contribution to Writers in the Schools.  The soiree also served as the finale event of Palmer’s Refuse to Struggle Campaign to build an Escapist Gallery & Studios.  In only 46 Days, Palmer raised over $76,000 from over 300 contributors from around the world in his artist-empowering crowd-funding project (RefusetoStruggle.com).  Also on this date, October 19, 2013, the Hon. Mayor Annise D. Parker made Official Proclamation that it was "John Ross Palmer Day" in the city of Houston, Texas.
