Follow on Google News | Indoor Picnic to Farewell Green Earth GroupBrisbane-based environmental awareness Green Earth Group is celebrating their successes over the past four years with an indoor picnic on Saturday.
By: Green Earth Group Founder and President, Leigh-Chantelle says, “The time has come for Green Earth Group to disband. We’ve had amazing members, volunteers and supporters over the years. New endeavours are in the pipeline, but we will always be linked by the community-focused, grassroots ethics of our Green Earth Group.” Attendees are encouraged to bring along a plate of vegan food to share. Vegan food is delicious, nutritious and cruelty free and includes nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, grains, beans and legumes. Vegan food is better for the environment, our health and prevents abuse and slaughter of our animal friends. Environmental and Animal Rights campaigner, Paul Mahony (http://terrastendo.net) states, “Depending on which factors are accounted for, estimates of livestock’s share of greenhouse gas emissions range from just under 20% to around 50%. The link between animal food products and climate change involves many inter-related factors, such as: • Livestock’s inherent inefficiency as a food source • The massive scale of the industry, including tens of billions of animals slaughtered annually • Land clearing and degradation • Greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide • Other warming agents, such as black carbon Green Earth Group has put on two successful large festivals: Green Earth Festival in Brisbane 2010 and Green Earth Day in Windsor in 2011. They have since organised various environmental and vegan outreach and education events regularly in Brisbane.
