Today, our client produces health, beauty, and household products, with continued growth year over year. Our client manufactures a variety of products that are regulated for transportation, which must be prepared for ground, ocean and air transportation. However, in order to meet regulatory requirements the customer needed to formulate a program that would allow their employees to prepare these shipments in a fast, cost-effective, and accurate manner. Initially the customer would ship all of their products as limited quantities under the UN number and proper shipping name that they were assigned in their respective MSDS (material safety data sheets, also referred to as SDS safety data sheet). This is where DGM New York came in to make complicated hazardous material regulations simplified. DGM New York’s Solution In the past, our client experienced many rejections and delays on outbound shipments. DGM New York engaged with and solved this problem in a variety of ways: DGM New York made a visit to the customer’s location where an audit was performed on all aspects of their logistics process. This was the outline for the SOP. DGM New York accessed all of the client’s products, MSDS, and packaging. It was determined that all of the shipments qualified for ID8000, Consumer Commodity, Class 9 classification. This greatly reduced dangerous goods documentation requirements, as well as marking and labeling requirements. DGM New York connected the customer to a new cost effective 24-hour emergency response telephone company. DGM New York subscribed the customer to DGOffice.net, DGM’s own dangerous goods documentation software for generating shipping papers and markings. DGM New York produced a fully comprehensive compliance guide, that detailed and explained every aspect of the customer’s products in regards to hazardous materials regulations for all modes of transportation (compliance with CFR49, ICAO, IATA and IMDG code requirements) The Results The client has experienced zero cargo rejections on their dangerous goods freight since DGM New York has intervened. The customer has saved money through time and packaging supply reduction due to DGM’s guidance. The customer has experienced better liability coverage by switching to DGM’s recommended 24-hour emergency telephone response company. The client has experienced a faster turn around time on preparation for shipments using DGoffice.net, which maintains a consignee database and generates markings automatically once the dangerous goods documentation is issued. The client has outsourced a portion of their warehouse and distribution needs to DGM New York for a number of product lines, enabling the customer to keep up with demand for their products to their customers. The client has referred 3 of their distributors to DGM New York, which DGM New York is currently working with to assist with their own hazardous material transportation issues. End
