Nov. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- The end to an unregulated business of health care insurance is fast upon us and we can thank the Affordable Care Act of 2010 for bringing it sooner versus later. Obamacare as many choose to call it has actually accelerated the demise of the health care affordability in this country.

While the aim or intent was to provide healthcare for those previously unable to obtain health insurance due to the price or due to pre-existing conditions, the realty of the rollout of the Healthcare Marketplace has finally revealed the true blame for the whole insurance debacle.

Health care in the United States is set up as a medicine for profit platform and greed has become the ultimate downfall of the entire health insurance business. It’s well worth noting that the United States is the only country on the planet earth that has medicine for profit.

If the most admired medical professionals and medical research in the United States has done anything wrong, it is that they have allowed unregulated price gouging on all pharmaceutical medicines and patents that prevent generic alternatives to be introduced for so long after a new medicine has had its run without competition.

A basic example is the Viagra hoopla that has a large and faithful following of prescriptions in U.S. men. This has been an all encompassing drug that allows those who can afford it to reap the benefits, but at an average of $15 per pill, there are a vast number of men who cannot pay that stiff a price.

The alternatives to U.S. prices for example with the generic version of Viagra that can be purchased online from Canada and India at an average price of $3 per pill. Same results at 80% less cost, is accommodating a large and growing number of men around the world. Consequently, Americans are seeking other more serious drugs for the same reason, more reasonable prices and alternatives to the name brand drugs.

Health insurance companies have been designed to never go broke. When the pharmaceutical companies strike a new marketable drug and capitalize on their unregulated pricing that drives the cost of healthcare up, the insurance premiums follow in order to maintain their profit margins. When uninsured patients get medical treatment, those who have insurance have to pay higher premiums, to again maintain the health insurance companies’ profit margins.

Being unregulated and greedy in the way our medicine for profit system in the U.S. works, we have all come to understand that our medical insurance policies have gone from co-pay and 80/20 premiums to only being able to afford catastrophic medical coverage and only then at ridiculous premiums to boot.

Most Americans are opting to purchase health insurance at the rock bottom coverage levels and taking a much bigger risk that they will not need major medical care, in order to simply afford health insurance coverage.

Regardless of your opinion on the Affordable Care Act and its drawbacks, it has done one thing that is undeniable. The fact that we are trying to get more uninsured people some form of health insurance, Obamacare has accelerated the end times for some insurance companies for lack of affordability. For the first time in our history, health insurance companies will have to entertain competitive rates in the near future in order to stay in business.

Americans have come to a point where our only healthcare choices are for catastrophic health care coverage and the rest is completely out of our pockets if we have to go for minor treatment and tests.

In comparison to the wages of our U.S. doctors, with say a German doctor, an American doctor’s yearly salary is $1,000,000 to the same physician in Germany making the equivalent of $60,000. Do you see what medicine for profit has done to our society? No one should die or go broke over health care costs.
