CRANSTON, R.I. - Nov. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Electro Standards Laboratories, Cranston, RI, announces the new Model 4720 remotely controllable DB25 A/B switch. The Model 4720 monitors the data on its A and B ports and responds to custom protocol ASCII characters “Switch to A” or “Switch to B” command sequences. Local control is available via a front-panel pushbutton. The Model 4720 allows quick connection to any one of two DB25 interface devices from one COMMON device.

The Model 4720 is available for shipment worldwide. The dimensions are 7.75” W x 7.25” D x 2.0” H (19.7 x 18.4 x 5.1 cm). The switch weighs approximately 2.5 lbs (1.13 Kg). Custom length DB25 cables are also available from the company for the switch installation.

The Model 4720 switches pins 1-8 and 20 of the DB25 interface. Data on both ports A and B are monitored for ASCII character command sequences. The command sequences are “Switch to A” commands received and responded to on port A and “Switch to B” commands received and responded to on port B.  The ASCII commands are identified, stripped from the data stream, and not allowed to pass through the Model 7420 A/B switch unit. Each received command is responded to for positive receipt of command acknowledgement. The custom command protocol is designed to enable the A/B switch unit to respond per command, acknowledge the receipt of the command, and provide status information per command request.

The Model 7420 is designed in an RS232 multi-drop configuration for monitored data on ports A and B. Each switch has a programmable dip switch to create its unique address and identity. The commands include: change switch position, query switch position status, and lockout/unlock front-panel control.

For easy visual monitoring, the Model 4720 features front-panel LED’s to display switch position and power status. For reliability, the Model 4720 retains the last switch position in the event of a power loss and continues to pass data. The attractive anodized black box packaging provides EMI/RFI shielding.

The standard power supply that is provided with the unit is a UL approved 100VAC/240VAC, 50Hz/60Hz wall mount module. This power module supplies 12VDC, 500mA to the unit and has a 2-prong, US, non-polarized plug.

Optionally available is a Wide Range Power Module, Catalog No. 517277. This module is a CE, RoHS, and UL listed table-mount power supply. This module provides 100VAC/240VAC, 50Hz/60Hz and features an IEC 60320 C14 inlet. This wide range power module paired with the Model 4720 creates an ideal switching solution for international applications.
