Involved with progressively increased roles and responsibilities since first joining the Davie-Cooper City Relay for Life in 2000, Bill Lewis of William E. Lewis Jr. & Associates recently joined "Pop Rocks!" - his eight-year old daughter's team at the Relay for Life of Indian River - Vero Beach, Florida. In honor of her great uncle, Kate named her team after Robert "Pop" Dwyer, who unfortunately did not survive his battle with cancer. Pop passed away shortly after seeing Kate on Halloween five years ago. Having participated at all levels of committee, whether it the simple volunteer back in the beginning, the Logistics Chair for the Davie-Cooper City Relay for Life, co-Chair of the Weston Relay for Life - one of the largest Relay for Life event's in Fort Lauderdale - the Online Fundraising Chair for the Tamarac/North Lauderdale Relay for Life, developing and devising new Relay's for Life, or serving on the Parole Board for Jail & Bail, a commitment to volunteer is ever present with Bill Lewis. Throughout the years, Bill Lewis has personally raised almost $200,000 for the American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life. Having once surpassed all goals, Bill Lewis was recognized in 2008 by the Broward unit with a "Top Online Fundraising Award" for the American Cancer Society - Florida Division, by raising more money than any other Relay participant statewide. In 2012, Bill Lewis also participated with his daughter - Katherine Lewis - in the Tamarac/North Lauderdale Relay for Life. Kate, the dynamic then seven-year old team captain of "Pop Rocks," achieved Gold status raising in excess of $5,000.00 in her first Relay for Life appearance as a team captain. Among Bill Lewis' other volunteer commitments were a several year stint as the Florida Chair for the Starlight Children's Foundation and as a board member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of South Florida, chairing an event called South Florida's Finest Couples. In moving his family north to the Treasure Coast and Vero Beach, Bill Lewis does not miss a beat in pride, commitment and community. Team "Pop Rocks!" will be the top fundraising team of the Relay for Life of Indian River - Vero Beach, Florida. Across America each and every year one event unites entire communities in the fight against cancer. That event is the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. It's a time and place where individuals come to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we have lost, and fight back against a disease that touches many lives.
