Follow on Google News | The New 2014 Jeep Cherokee Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick StatusUtilizing a variety of innovative safety technologies never before seen in a Chrysler Group vehicle, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee was chosen as a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
By: Knight Dodge Adaptive Cruise Control Plus is a Chrysler Group first, making its debut as an available feature for the new Jeep Cherokee. This system uses a combination of radar and video sensors to keep the Cherokee at a preset distance from the vehicle in front of it. There are four selectable distances that can be changed depending on the traffic pattern and average speed. Adaptive Cruise Control can adjust the throttle and is able to apply up to 25 percent braking power in order to maintain the preset distance set by the driver. LaneSense Lane Departure is an available safety system that uses a camera to detect the position of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee within a driving lane. If the vehicle approaches the edge of the lane without a turn signal activated, LaneSense Lane Departure interprets this as an unintentional drift. Visual and haptic feedback through the steering wheel will notify the driver that they are starting to drift between lanes. Forward Collision Warning with Mitigation is an available safety feature that is designed to detect traffic-gap adjustments when the adaptive cruise control system isn’t activated. If the radar and video sensors detect an obstacle that is fast-approaching, this system provides audible and visual alerts, the brakes pre-fill to prepare for emergency stopping, and the deployment of Advanced Brake Assist if the driver does not brake fast enough.
